Hi everyone
A quick update on our last appeal on behalf of a young Irish woman, on an IWT J-1 visa, whose lawful authorized status was about to expire. We were able to help this young woman change her visa status, which has enabled her to remain on in the U.S. legally. This will give her some time to regroup, and has taken a tremendous amount of pressure off of her, which some young grads have experienced on this type of visa program. Any goal, even those pertaining to the design of a visa program, must be realistic and achievable, so we must keep striving to improve the current portfolio of Irish-U.S. work visas.
After making a number of urgent appeals to the community over the past year on behalf of J-1 visa holders, Failte 32 is delighted to see that it is getting its message out there to other Irish American organizations. The Emerald Isle Immigration Center (www.eiic.org) recently sent out an urgent appeal to the community on behalf of J-1 visa holders through its newsletter. The Emerald Isle Immigration Center does great work for the community, and needs as much support as possible from the community.
If more of our affiliated organizations can follow suit and send out appeals like these to their mailing lists, we should be able to very effectively solve many of the job (and accommodation) issues our new arrivals face. Although our mailing lists overlap to some degree, collectively we’ll be able to reach out to everyone in the Irish American community.

We always ask the community to try to help our newest arrivals from Ireland in their search for employment. Everything helps including job advice, a job referral etc. After some difficulty trying to find accommodations, some Summer J-1’ers now face the difficult task of having to find a job for a couple of months. As always, we thank you for your kind support.
