Failte 32’s immigration attorney, Caro Kinsella, was a guest on the Pat Kenny Show last Friday back in Ireland. After flying in from the U.S., Caro immediately headed over to the RTE studios to be interviewed by Pat Kenny where she discussed the numerous visa options available for those considering emigrating to the U.S., Failte 32, and the Jobs Expo 2012 at the RDS where she had a visa help/support stand. Failte 32 received immediate requests from all age groups and backrounds on U.S. visa options and job prospects.

Although you hear of many people emigrating to Australia, and more exotic places, America still remains a practical destination for those looking for work, as the flight home is relatively short, unlike flying from Australia which is on the other side of the world. And companies are still hiring and firing each day in NY, but you have to be a bit more creative in how you prospect for a job. 

 

 

Based on some of the requests we have received over the past few months, there seems to be interest in a Failte 32 type initiative in other states, particularly Chicago and the West Coast. This was also raised by the former Executive Director of the CIIC (Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers www.ciic-usa.org), Katie Fox, who had the vision to foresee the benefit of a Failte 32 type service in other states. Although there are many Irish community and business networks throughout the U.S. that provide excellent services to the community, we can’t expect them to do everything, and so it’s important to have initiatives such as Failte 32 that can engage these networks on a local level to assist Irish visa holders find jobs in the U.S.  After all, jobs are NUMBER ONE priority. And it doesn’t require any funding to set up and operate such an initiative, only your time and effort and support from affiliated organizations and strategic partners, and organizations such as the Irish Examiner USA (www.irishexaminerusa.com) and P.D. O’Hurley’s Group of Restaurants and Irish bars (www.pdohurleys.com) for support with marketing and resources respectively. So feel free to spread the word amongst your networks to see if there is anyone in your area interested in starting a similar initiative.

I did my J1 in New York 3 years ago and fell in love with the city,
and so I always said to myself that I would go back to get a job in my
area of expertise when I finished college.

Therefore, since the ‘graduate visa’ came out two years ago, I’ve
wanted to avail of this opportunity. However, I heard Carol (didn’t
catch her second name) on the Joe Duffy show this morning speaking
about American visa’s. However, I didn’t get to hear all that she had
to say, so I would appreciate if you could help me out with the choice
of visa that I should obtain.

Also, I am finding it very difficult to obtain work at present, none
of the companies that I am applying to seem to be getting back to me
about my application, so I am seeking your advice on whether to
continue to contact companies now and over the summer months, or
whether I should wait until I enter the states to explore my job
opportunities.

In keeping with the multi-cultural traditions of the parish’s history, The Basilica’s Blessed Bacchanal will honor leaders from the various ethnic communities in the neighborhood including, Father Andrew Thi, Patrick Allen, Jim & Jill Gadwood, Rafael & Nitida Grullon, and Ms. Anna Messina.  The Honorees will be presented by Master of Ceremonies, Jim Gaffigan. There will be a feast of offerings from local neighborhood restaurants for guests to indulge in, as well as a cash bar.
Rafael Grullon, Jr. will provide an array of contemporary and classic favorite tunes throughout the event.

The cornerstone of Old St. Patrick’s – the city’s first Cathedral Church – was laid on June 8,1809. It was dedicated on May 14,1815, and on that day the New York Gazette described the cathedral as “a grand and beautiful church, which may justly be considered one of the greatest ornaments of our city”.

There’s no better way to greet summer than with Symphony Space’s 31st annual BLOOMSDAY ON BROADWAY, celebrating the life, love, and language in James Joyce’s ULYSSES.  This year we pay tribute to the music and songs throughout Ulysses with “Music in Bloom.”  For the first time in Bloomsday on Broadway history, listen to a reading of the entire “Sirens” episode with full performances of the music central to the drama.  Broadway star DAVID MARGULIES performs the role of Mr. Bloom and director-host ISAIAH SHEFFER narrates.  And, of course, no Bloomsday on Broadway would be complete without FIONNULA FLANAGAN bringing down the house with the final “yes” of the entire uncensored Molly Bloom monologue.

Legendary Irish folk icon, FINBAR FUREY will return to Joe’s Pub on Tuesday May 29th. His last show there was in March of 2009 where he played to a sold out crowd, including many IBO members at that time!

Finbar Furey, has been making his mark on the music of Ireland and the World for more than four decades. As the lead singer and uillean pipes player for The Fureys, a group he shared with his brothers Eddie, Paul and George, Finbar helped revitalize Ireland’s traditional music scene. Since leaving the band to pursue a solo career in 1993, Finbar has continued to attract attention with his gutsy approach to the music of the Emerald Isle.

 

Finbar has been well respected for his earthy voice and multiple instrument playing including the banjo, guitar and the tin whistle. As one of the finest uilleann pipe players in the world, he pushed the instrument of his Irish roots into the sphere of contemporary music. His influence can be heard throughout recent years’ popular music from Riverdance to Black 47. Early in his career, Finbar had a stint as the lead singer of the groundbreaking band The Clancy Brothers.

 

Outside of his songwriting and performing, Finbar has had success as an actor appearing in films including Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York. He recently appeared in the films Paris/Sexy and Strength and Honour as well as the RTÉ Television series Love/Hate.

 

FInbar will be performing some of your old favorite along with some new tunes. This is his only NYC show and you don’t want to miss it.

Anticipated Tasks:               Following initial training, Digital Sales Executives play a key role in making telephone contact with key decision makers and negotiating the sale of advertising service.
